Ralf Lobeck combines colors and writing, an interplay of controlled use of typography and free application of paint in his »Type paintings«. Messages or quotes, lyrics, or poems are sometimes clearly shown by both artists, sometimes they are hidden. About his work, he says: "I paint with words." His »Type Paintings« create an interplay between the controlled use of typography on the one hand and the expressive application of paint on the other. The intensity, layering, and transparency of the colors applied with squeegees support this effect of evoking an emotional response.
