Siegmar Ahlvers, born in 1957, grew up in Langenhagen, the Weserbergland region and in Celle, and has lived in Hanover since 1978. His background in science and engineering led him to spend over
30 years travelling internationally as an engineer. Art, creativity, structured working,
and having a plan for him, these are integral to life and his creative Artwork. Having always been
active in painting as a sideline, he has now been devoting himself full-time to art for several years.
His philosophical influences for example, Heisenberg’s work *The Part and the Whole*
and, consequently, the uncertainty principle have become an inner metaphor for him: reality oscillates
between probability and certainty. And in keeping with his Christian convictions, he sees
a creative spirit at work in the development of the universe. Where spirit and creativity
converge, something new emerges!
Ahlvers searches for the ‘inner structures’ of the world in patterns, rhythms and colour spaces. These
often graphic and geometric compositions are based on precise composition and a deliberately
arranged colour scheme. Materials and methods are open-ended: brushes, palette knives, rollers, sponges,
pens, photographic prints, aluminium foil, sand, pebbles, charcoal, magnets, anything that makes the surface and space
resonate. His Artworks are created in a methodical manner. Ideas develop from dreams, meditative notes and studies in
his sketchbook, until the time is right to transfer them onto canvas or painting supports made of wood
and other materials.
